Base field should show "/" instead of being empty for root.
As see in the attached image, the label "base" in group creation is flagged as "mandatory".
Anyway, i'm able to create the group with that field empty.
If the default base for group creation is /Root, the value should be shown in the respective field, if isn't it shouldn't be possible to create/modify the group.
The version i've installed is: 1.0.8.9 according to fusiondirectory-setup --version i used this repos:
