community organization membership type

community organization membership type

Hi,

As discussed with Benoit,

We have the case where a single user can manage several organizations. In this case, we have no choice but to have a "membership type" attribute on the org entry (fdCommunityMembershipType), based on the same existing list combo.

So for each org, we could retrieve the membership type. This would also improve and simplify the search when looking for orgs membership type (ie http://www.ow2.org/bin/view/Membership_Joining/Members_Presentation)

Thanks a lot

Here is a typical example we want to solve :

Mr Durant have a single account and represents (is manager of) two organizations: "Tapis Inc." et "Chiffon SA."

In the end, we want to know which "membership type" links "Tapis Inc." to Mr Durant. Is it Strategic or Corporate or Z ? Same thing for the link between "Chiffon SA." and Mr Durant : Is it Strategic or Corporate or Z ?

( Note that there is a difference between the organization category (Micro/Academia/Lab) and the membership type (Strategic/Corporate). You can find this in the original model PDF. )

I don't see the problem, because the membership that links an org to a person is always the membership of the org? So if Mr Durant is manager of Tapis Inc, you just need to read the membership type of Tapis Inc to get the information you need. Is it not enough?

Yes I think it's enough, and this is what I've suggested from the start, then our discussion with Benoit @ Lyon has led to group the membership in a single attribute in the user entry. Our thinking was "a membership should always be linked to a user", A comment that I've failed to contradict at that specific time.

However, a membership doesn't always link an user to a org : individual membership links a user to OW2 itself (only). So we have the membership "individual" in one hand, and the membership of the organization on another hand.

In both case that's a membership, but the context is different.
